Scolmore celebrates double award win

awards at the prestigious Electrical Industry Awards ceremony. The company’s new Mode Locating Plug Socket

W

triumphed in the Innovative Commercial Product of the Year, as well the Innovative Residential/Domestic Product of the Year categories. The Mode Locating Plug Socket assists people with impaired vision or

poor hand to eye coordination to more easily insert a plug into a socket. The contoured shape of the front plate guides the earth pin into position, and it is this innovative plug guide which gives the product a greater focus on usability and means its use can be extended to situations where a socket isn’t easily accessible. The locating plug sockets are available in one and two-gang options,

with the two-gang version featuring outboard rockers to further assist with distinguishing between switches, making it less likely to switch the wrong one. Marie Parry, Scolmore Group Marketing Manager said: “We are absolutely

thrilled to have received this recognition from the industry. It is a great accolade for all the team members responsible for making this possible. “Although primarily designed for the assisted living sector, we can see that in the future all sockets may adopt this unique but very simple design.”

and installed around the globe and this latest investment is aimed at ensuring it has the capacity and skills to maintain an astonishing growth pattern that has seen it post record figures in 15 out of the last 19 years. The expansion of the tool

room and recruitment of 17-year old Louis Hopper as the company’s latest apprentice provide the potential to increase production capacity in this vital area of the business by 25 per cent. Meanwhile, the roof replacement significantly reduces the company’s

carbon footprint as a result of the adoption of a forced air fan system, better insulation, and vastly improved natural lighting and ventilation. Richard Shaw, Managing Director, said: “One of the key ingredients in

our on-going success is always ensuring we’re prepared for the next step in the company’s development.” Louis Hopper, who first came to Ellis on work experience, is the latest

in a long line of apprentices taken on by Ellis. In fact, at present three of its four strong tool room team began life at Ellis as apprentices. Another Ellis apprentice, Adam Freer, was named Derwent Training

Association’s Apprentice of the Year (Final year NVQ in the workplace) earlier this year.
