AND LAW ARRESTS

Bristow Man Arrested and Charged With Cattle Theft

J Bart Perrier TSCRA Special Ranger

immy Lee Manley, 51, Bristow, Okla., was arrested Oct. 27 in Sand Springs, Okla., and charged with larceny of cattle and burglary in the second degree by the Tulsa

County Court for having stolen 12 cattle from 2 ranchers in that county. Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association Special Ranger Bart Perrier

led the investigation and TSCRA Special Ranger John Cummings assisted. According to Perrier, Manley stole a stock trailer from Wagoner County in July.

He used the trailer to steal 6 cows and a steer calf from a Broken Arrow, Okla., ranch and transported those cattle to the Fort Smith Livestock Auction near Fort Smith, Ark., where they sold for $9,729.36. On Aug. 2, Manley stole a bull, 2 cows and 2 heifer calves from a different rancher

near Collinsville, Okla. The suspect also burglarized this victim’s barn, stealing assorted hand tools and other items, along with the victim’s 14-foot stock trailer. Manley used the trailer to haul the 5 stolen cattle to the Fort Smith Livestock Auc- tion where they were sold for $7,253.39. Perrier, Cummings and Investigator Daniel Brashear of the Creek County Sheriff’s Offi ce recovered the victim’s stock trailer and some of the stolen tools at the suspect’s residence in Bristow on Oct. 13. Special agents with the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture arrested Manley

John Cummings TSCRA Special Ranger

earlier this year on a separate cattle theft charge in Creek County, Okla. Perrier says he expects Manley to be charged with other pending cattle theft and larceny charges in various other counties in the near future. “This case provides a great example of TSCRA special rangers working closely

with other local law enforcement offi cials to arrest another cattle thief,” said Perrier. “Ranchers should always remember that branding cattle, locking gates and being aware of what’s taking place on their operation is critically important. Taking these precautions can help to prevent cattle theft.” TSCRA would like to thank Investigator Brashear and Oklahoma Department

of Agriculture Special Agents Dustin Goforth, Paul Cornett and Patrick Blake for their assistance in this case.
