Beach Park, Brazil

Latin America’s new waterparks set the standard

Waterpark projects in Latin America are increasing and many of them are allied to resort-style accommodation facilities, providing larger attendance potential and greater guests comfort. Astrid González Nariño reports on three new parks from three countries

TURNING YOUR WORLD AROUND

Hot Beach Brazil Located in the city of Olimpia, State of Sao Paulo (242 miles from the Brazilian capital), this new park will be inaugurated next year when the Olympic Games will be held in the country. Its geographic position will allow guests to experience a sunny holiday throughout the year. But Hot Beach won’t have the local market all to itself.

Olimpia is a major tourist resort and already home one of the most famous water parks in Brazil, Thermas dos Laranjais, which receives more than 1.9 million visitors per year. Nevertheless, with such a large number of tourists to the area, the developer of the park, the Ferrasa Group, is confident of success. The company is recognised for its expertise in construction, hotel management and administration of tourism projects. During their press conference earlier this year to announce

the opening date, managers indicated that the park will offer a wide range of attractions, moderate ones and others for

lovers of strong emotions. The park will feature more than 15 attractions, with about 100 million gallons of natural hot water provided via deep wells beneath the site. Some of the equipment will be manufactured locally, while others pieces will be imported from Canada and Mexico, all duly certified to international safety standards and operated by highly trained teams of lifeguards. The thermal water, which will also be incorporated into several other facilities, should be of great interest to those who want to relax. Offering a mix of pure adrenaline, excitement and

tranquillity, Hot Beach will be complemented by resort facilities allowing visitors to make the most of their vacation time. There will, we are promised, be a strong emphasis on good service and hospitality. A quality program will include awards for best customer service practices of the 200 employees who will be appointed as part of the first phase of the project. With projects like Thermas dos Laranjais and the almost as popular (1.7 million guests a year) Beach Park in Fortaleza, Brazil already boasts some of Latin America’s leading waterparks. The latter’s 18 major attractions include the 41m- high Insane considered one of the most extreme freefall slides in the world, and the prk has picked up awards from organisations such as IAAPA, the World Waterpark
