Attraction Profile
Adding the (extra) wow factor to Chimelong Ocean Kingdom
5D Castle Theater A
4D effects theatres are now so commonplace that they are seen almost as a staple of the amusement park mix,
there alongside offerings like the carousel, flume ride or bumper cars, but rarely featured as a headline
attraction. Even when they are, it is usually the film
rather than the theatre itself that grabs the spotlight. Not so at Chimelong Ocean Kingdom at Hengqin Island (Zhuhai), China. The marine theme park that is packed full of superlatives this summer launched the 5D
Castle Theater, which has just been awarded two Guinness World Records
s well as some imposing theming and big rides by the likes of Mack and B&M, the park already holds Guinness World Records for world’s largest
aquarium, largest aquarium tank, largest underwater viewing dome, largest aquarium window and largest acrylic panel. Now, to the side of Ocean Kingom’s main entrance, guests encounter a colourful buildng that houses the word’s largest
Star attraction Three years in planning, the ¥300 million ($50m/€42m) project features a 1,002-seat auditorium hosts up to 31
projection screen – 88 metres (288ft) in width and a surface area of 1,580 square metres. The stereoscopic 3D projection that fills that huge canvas is also the world’s largest.
RIGHT: That record-breaking screen, plus the animatronic Kaka/bird finale
