TEA time
with Wanda Themed Entertainment Association (TEA) president Steve Birket of Birket Engineering attended the grand opening of Wanda Xishuangbanna International Resort as a VIP guest of the Wanda Group. Here are his observations.
“The opening was more than
grand,” said Birket. “I was honored to be on the guest list and extend my warmest thanks to Wanda for making it possible. Planned, upcoming Wanda projects in China include sites in Harbin, Chengdu, Hefei, Wuxi, Nanchang, Guilin, and Guangzhou. All eyes in our international attractions industry will be watching these projects with interest and anticipation.” Friday evening (September 26)
guests were treated to the opening performance of the Dai Show, a joint venture with Franco Dragone Entertainment Group. The magnificent 1,200-seat Dai Theater was designed by British architect Mark Fisher. Saturday morning, guests attended the formal resort opening ceremony. Wanda chairman Wang Jianlin stated his intent to reshape the tourism industry, and to make Wanda the world's biggest tourism company within five years. The ceremony was followed by
a walking tour of Wanda's ambitious $2.5 billion theme park, divided into two areas’ the "dry” park and the waterpark The dry park contains four lands with steel coasters, stage and water shows, spinning rides, great theming and lush jungle landscaping. The expansive, colourful waterpark features many WhiteWater waterslides and boasts what is said to be Asia's largest wave pool. The afternoon lunch was hosted by Wanda Commercial Planning & Research Institute president Yuan Wang.

miles from Xishuangbanna in Pu’er, birthplace of Pu’er tea, it crossed the hills and rivers of Hengduan Mountain Range and now, in Wanda’s recreation, park guests can experience one of most romantic and adventurous routes in the world.
In Jungle Adventure, visitors can wind their way through a dense jungle, walking alongside a river that gently cascades down to the Monkey Lagoon. Treetop bridges and walkways celebrating the ornate local architectural styles allow guests to explore the green forest canopy with its elevated adventures and experiences. Attractions here have been designed to emphasise vertical movement, taking passengers to the site’s leafy upper reaches. Some of the key rides and attractions spread across the park include a Flying Coaster from Bolliger & Mabillard (B&M), a Water Coaster by Intamin, 50m S&S Space Shot tower, MotoCoaster launch coaster from Zamperla, Splash Battle by Preston & Barbieri and a rapids raft ride from a local vendr.
