Lighting & Wiring Accessories
HEVER CASTLE: Selecting a suitable lighting control system and the perfect mix of switch plates and sockets was a must.
Being creative with lighting in boutique hotels
Gavin Williams, Marketing Manager for Hamilton Litestat, explores the growing trend and the unique customer demands for ‘Boutique’ lighting and wiring accessories and the opportunity it presents to electrical wholesalers…
T
he ‘Boutique’ hotel concept was launched during the 1980s and what started as a niche product has
over the last 30 years, become a global phenomenon. Also referred to as lifestyle or designer hotels, they are unique in interior design, architecture and theme, and are often historic. Essentially a stay in a Boutique Hotel is a lifestyle experience, very different from a mainstream hotel where uniform décor is standard.
The outlook for the hotel industry in the UK
is promising. Recent reports by Visit Britain indicated growth in 2014 and 2015 of up to 4.5% annually. Hamilton is already seeing an increase in product demand for refurbishments and fit-outs by the hotel and especially the Boutique hotel sector and that is where the opportunity for the electrical wholesaler market lies. These hotels are clearly aiming at a very
eclectic market place, which is looking for something different, but demand for all the guest room mod cons found in any

mainstream hotel are still expected. The need to integrate state of the art lighting and audio controls within a heritage or individual design theme is a Hamilton strength and represents a considerable opportunity for the contractor and wholesaler alike!
Stand out from the crowd From Hamilton’s point of view, we are seeing a rise in demand from small to medium ‘Boutique’ hotels for our electrical wiring accessories and Mercury lighting control and multi-room audio systems. There are a number of factors at play; in the first instance positive economic growth in the UK is giving smaller scale venues the confidence to reinvest in their infrastructure. When it comes to seeking products and
services, the ability to tailor products to the individual requirements of customised projects makes Hamilton an attractive option. Not least because of our desire to partner with contractors commissioned to fulfill these often challenging fit-outs and their wholesale suppliers. We have a huge amount of
flexibility to supply unique and bespoke products, cost effectively.
Merging the new in-keeping-with the old
Boutique hotel guests are discerning. For them it is all about the experience: the aesthetics of the environment and high levels of personal service. One thing is for sure, they expect ‘luxurious home comforts’ and that includes access to all of the home technology and entertainment services as standard. This is a major consideration and a challenge when planning hotel guest rooms, especially as many projects tend to be refurbishments of older style and heritage properties. The ability to integrate smart technologies sympathetically and seamlessly within these projects is key. Also these lighting installations are not limited to guest rooms. The creative use of lighting control in communal areas, restaurants and bars to generate ambiance is an ideal scene setter. Merging the new in a way that’s in keeping with the old.
