Loyola Chicago claims second straight NCAA Men’s title with win over Lewis
he numbers tell a story of a shift of power in NCAA men’s collegiate volleyball. For 44 years a Mountain Pacifi c Sports Federation team played for a national collegiate championship, 33 of those against another West Coast team. Many times those MPSF teams would play for a national title at a site hosted by a Mid- west or Eastern school.
In a complete reversal it was Loyola University of Chicago defeating Midwest rival Lewis University for the men’s national championship in fi ve nerve-wracking sets (21-25, 25-23, 25-15, 25-27, 23-21) on Stanford University’s campus near Palo Alto, Calif., on May 9.
It was the second straight national title for the Ramblers, who split four total matches against Lewis in 2015 during a sea- son when the two Chicago-area programs were ranked one-two
