Junior national teams set for busy summer U.S. Women’s Junior National Team

Coach Tom Hogan is excited about the 12 players selected to his roster. “These players are among the top in the country and the world at this age group. These 12 players, as well as our staff, have an immense pride in repre- senting our country,” Hogan said. The team will represent the United States at the Global Challenge held July 13-16 in Pula, Croatia. The U.S. qualified to participate in the 2015 FIVB Women’s Junior World Champion- ship by winning gold at last year’s NORCECA Women’s U20 Continental Championship. However, this year’s World Championship event changed locations from Cyprus to Puerto Rico, along with the dates of the competition from early July to Sept. 9-21. With the lack of avail- able athletes during September due to academic concerns and the collegiate and prep volleyball seasons, USA Volleyball opted to pull out of the World Championship. The U.S. Men’s Junior National Team has not been pared down to 12 yet, but of the 21 names invited to train several have already made an impact at the college level. Dan Friend, who is head coach of the U.S. Men’s Junior National team, will be happy to see Jeffrey Jendryk on his side this summer. Jendryk helped Loyola Univer- sity of Chicago defeat Friend’s Lewis University team in the NCAA Division I-II Men’s Cham- pionship match in May. Jendryk was named the tournament’s Most Oustanding Player as a freshman.

GLOBAL EXPERIENCE: International competition culminates the summer of training for USA Volleyball’s Youth National teams.
