Social Media Basics: A Primer Not just trying to be clever
here – social media is blow- ing up and whether you use it or not, it’s more than a buzzword and it’s important to for coaches, team staff and athletes of all ages to understand what social me- dia is and how it is used.
What is social media? According to the Merriam- Webster Dictionary, social
media is here to stay.
How big is it? More than 25% of users on the internet use some form of social media. Don’t think that’s too many? 73% of Americans have at least one social media profi le. 1.42 billion – that’s right, BILLION – people use Face- book alone – that’s more than the population of Chi-
