National Championships for Shotgun 2015 USA Shooting

The 2015 USA Shooting National Championships of Shotgun concluded Thurs- day, June 18, and during the 10-day event plenty of headlines were made as the nation’s best double- barreled competitors shot- off against one another in Colorado Springs.
Some of the standout headlines included watch- ing eight fi rst-time cham- pions take to the podium, Brian Burrows’ (Fallbrook, California) continued domi- nation of Men’s Trap with his third title in four years, a junior uprising through- out all disciplines, the trap strength showcased by Ar-
kansas and California shoot- ers and fi nally the appoint- ment of four new National Team and two new National Junior Team members. Only National Team slots
were on the line for Open- class competitors with Nationals not serving as a selection match for upcom- ing international competi- tion, but watching the depth of the U.S. shotgun program battle it out against the Rocky Mountain backdrop still made for great theater. part one of a two-part selec- tion for the Junior World Team that will compete at the 2015 Shotgun World Championships in Lonato, Italy, in September. That motivation led to sev- eral junior standout per- formances not only within the junior competition but also throughout the open ranks as well. Twelve junior team competitors made an open fi nal with four of them actually winning, including a clean sweep in the veteran- laden Men’s Double Trap discipline with Dale Royer (Jackson, Montana) and Dustin McGowen (Green- wood, Arkansas) each earn-
ing a victory. Along with being the Junior National Champion, Royer is now a National Team member as a result of his third-place over- all fi nish. McGowen show- cased his skills in Double Trap, but was even more distinguished in Trap where he fi nished second overall and was the National Junior Champion. Similarly, Junior World Champion Dania Vizzi (Odessa, Florida) scored a double-medal performance by dominating the junior women’s skeet fi eld to earn a 20-point victory there and then back that up with a third-place fi nish overall along with a win in the fi rst
