USA Shooting affi liated club the Minute Man Sports- man’s Club (MMSC) will host Olympic and Paralympic shooting if Boston becomes the host city for the 2024 Olympic Games, Minute Man Board Member Hank Garvey and Boston 2024 Partnership CEO Rich Davey announced June 15. Founded in 1934, Min-
ute Man, which has approxi- mately 350 members, hosts some of the most presti- gious skeet and trap shoot- ing events in New England. While the entrance to the club is located on Francis Wyman Road in Burlington, Mass., most of its 100 acres are in Billerica. “Minute Man has 80+
years of promoting excel- lence in the shooting sports,” said Garvey. “Hosting the Olympic and Paralympic Games is a generational op- portunity to enhance our city and build a legacy that all Bostonians can be proud of. For the athletes we have to- day in very real pursuit of the Olympic path, this provides motivation and increases their drive to achieve. For the future,
it assists us
in recruiting kids to be in- volved with this great sport; they now have a chance to be part of something really special. The members and
current athletes of Minute Man take great pride and satisfaction in knowing that Boston 2024 has the confi - dence in us to ensure we’ll be a part of this transforma- tive opportunity.” “For athletes and spec-
tators, we’re confi dent that Minute Man will offer an extraordinary experience,” said Davey. “At the same time, the Games will pro- vide the club with new and
upgraded facilities that will make it one of the premier facilities in the entire coun- try, ensuring its success for another century. We look for- ward to working with Minute Man and the towns of Biller- ica and Burlington about the opportunities the Games will bring.” “New England’s spirit
thrives in the members and athletes of Minute Man. Over recent years the Club
has built one of the stronger shooting programs in the na- tion,” said USA Shooting’s Executive Director & CEO Robert Mitchell. “The abil- ity to host an Olympic and Paralympic competition is no small undertaking, but Minute Man has made the commitment to whole-heart- edly embrace this exciting opportunity.
We applaud
MMSC for their efforts to distinguish themselves dur- ing this process and stand with all of Boston 2024 in their efforts to provide an outstanding Olympic and Paralympic shooting venue which will support continued growth of shooting sports into the future.”
