NEWS — SUPERFAM
In the fourth of our features ahead of the California SuperFAM, we speak to Amanda Davies, travel consultant at Bon Voyage Travel and Tours, who attended in 2012
Amanda Davies, third right, on the 2012 SuperFAM
Q Where did you visit on the 2012 SuperFAM? A I did the Coastal itinerary, and we got to visit a host of places including San Francisco, Santa Cruz, Monterey, Carmel, Paso Robles, Pismo Beach, Pebble Beach, 17-Mile Drive, Solvang, Hearst Castle, Santa Barbara, Oxnard, Santa Monica and San Diego!
Q Do you have any particular highlights?
A It is so hard to pick one, it was just incredible. I think the memory that stands out is a night camping in the Monterey Bay Aquarium. We were able to experience the aquarium in the dark with only the light from the tanks. I slept by the main tank and I woke in the morning to see a sea turtle swimming over my head. It was just magical. I couldn’t pick out a funniest moment as I don’t think I stopped laughing the whole time. However, it was very funny during the aquarium stay when one of the airbeds deflated as we were trying to sleep!

Q How does the California SuperFAM compare to others you’ve been on?
A I don’t think it is possible to compare California as it is just such a unique place. In terms of what defines
California, I think the people make it…well, that and the incredible scenery.
Q How did the SuperFAM help you sell California? A When you have experienced and seen these amazing areas it means that you can really sell with enthusiasm and first-hand knowledge. This always comes across to the customer and makes them know you really are an expert on that area, which gives them confidence in you and your company. We were really lucky to fly in Club World to and from California with British Airways, and this was something I had never been able to do before. It was really great to understand what you pay for - not just the space but the experience as I never could have
imagined how different it makes flying. I now sell more business class flights and in fact now fly BA Club with my family.
Q What would you say to someone considering trying to get on the 2015 SuperFAM?
A Grab the opportunity with both hands. It’s a once- in-a-lifetime opportunity, and you will see things you never imagined you would be lucky enough to see.
