BELOW LEFT: This memorial at the Local History Museum of Slavutych and Chornobyl recognizes the fi rst 30 people to die immediately after the Chornobyl disaster. Most were plant workers and fi rst responders. BELOW: A new amusement park in Pripyat was slated to open to coincide with annual May Day celebrations. The ferris wheel is seen from inside an abandoned building in town. BOTTOM: This view of the abandoned city of Pripyat is from the roof of one of the tallest apartment buildings. From this vantage point the entire city is visible, and the Chornobyl power plant complex can be seen in the far distance.
