PASSING OVER THE DCA MANTLE

Direct Commerce Association and Head of Retail Trading for the Royal British Legion
I am currently writing this piece on the 18th December and thinking about my enjoyable time as Executive Chairman for the DCA Advisory Board. When I was appointed in November 2012, I had a mixture of emotions but I mainly had a great sense of excitement. I had been a member of the CatEx DCA three years prior to my appointment as it was known then, and had always found the DCA true to its mission of existing to facilitate vital networking between its members and bringing together some of the most knowledgeable and passionate individuals in the industry. Moreover, it also offered instant access to the latest advice and information through its website and online forum, where businesses in all areas of the multi-channel retail industry could seek and exchange ideas. So to be able to help shape and influence the direction of the DCA was a real honour. So what has been my personal highlight
over the last two years? Te main one has to be the re-branding of CatEx DCA to the Direct Commerce Association and then the re-structure of the Association around elected Primary Councils, each focused on key areas of how Members’ businesses reach and service their customers. I am very pleased to see that as I depart as Executive Chairman all 5 councils have successfully elected excellent individuals and experts into the ten co-Chair positions. I very much believe that the
Primary Councils of Catalogue and Print, Digital Commerce, Multichannel, Store and TV will now drive the DCA forward and that Membership of the DCA will be more valuable and relevant than ever. During my time as Executive Chairman
I have been ably supported by the Advisory Board and would not have produced the major achievements over my tenure. Heartfelt thanks goes to all the board members Wayne Parrott, Tony Adams, Jillian Bamsey, Lara Bonney, Katy Ingram, David Lockwood, Iain McDonald, Alex Pratt, Chris Terelak, Mark Wilby and Andrew Wilson. Very special thanks has to go to Nigel Swabey, the DCA President who has been an excellent sounding board of the years and provided invaluable advice. Finally, outstanding support was given to me by the DCA secretariat team led by Jane Revell-Higgins and Monica Carter-Burns. As I sign off as Chairman, I would like
to say I am delighted that Alex Pratt and Mark Wilby have are now in the positions of Executive Chairman and Deputy Executive Chairman respectively. I have full confidence that Alex and Mark and the new Primary Councils will lead the Direct Commerce Association into the next exciting chapter and will be adding great value and business inspiration for its members, and providing a unique forum to help each other achieve greater success and profitability.”
