thermoplastic compounds: a new tool for accelerated discovery and optimisation’. As we reported in the July 2014 edition of Compounding World, Polymaterials is using innovative methods to rapidly produce and test different polymer formulations. Dr Maier will discuss the company’s approach and its fi ndings, which are based on a mix of combinatorial experimentation, design of experiments and high-throughput screening.

Opening up new markets The fi nal session on the fi rst day of the Compounding World Congress will focus on opening up new markets. It will start with Anis Tebib, automotive marketing manager at Styron. He’ll discuss developing innovative automotive applications with advanced thermoplastic compounds. Styron has been involved in the develop- ment of some groundbreaking car components, such as the fi rst all-plastic, mono-material tailgate, as used on the Renault Clio. It has also been working on blow- moulded seatbacks for VW/Audi, lightweight compo- nents for the BMW i3 and various LED lighting projects. The exciting world of 3D printing will be the subject

Site visit to HPF / Quarzwerke

Conference attendees will have the opportunity to visit HPF The Mineral Engineers, a division of Quarzwerke, on the afternoon of Tuesday 21 April, before welcome cocktail reception and registration session that take place that evening. Coaches will take participants from Cologne to the HPF facility in

nearby Frechen. There will be opportunities to tour the R&D laborato- ries, hear a company presentation, and attend a networking break. HPF produces a range of high-performance mineral fi llers including

cristobalite, kaolin, wollastonite and mica. One of its latest launches is Silatherm, a mineral additive for heat-conductive compounds.

of fi nal presentation on the fi rst day of the conference. Michael Anton, materials business manager EMEA at Stratasys, will focus on technology trends and market opportunities for plastics in this sector. Stratasys is a leading global player in 3D printing equipment and materials, so Anton is well placed to discuss these topics in detail. The programme for the second day of the conference will include sessions on electrically and thermally conductive compounds, and on getting the most from compounding lines. These talks will be previewed in detail in next month’s issue.

More information The Compounding World Congress 2015 is spon- sored by HPF The Mineral Engineers, ICMA San Giorgio and Imerys Graphite & Carbon. In addition to the high-level conference sessions, the event will feature an exhibition area that will
