of missile submarines will enable to get a highly armed submarine. Such submarines, with a salvo of both anti-ship missiles and missiles for attacks on land targets, are of an evi- dent interest for the countries that are trying to take the place of region- al leaders.
Competitiveness of Project 636 is maintained due to its permanent modernization. All this was made possible due to the huge growth margin, successful layout solutions that have been used as a basis of the Project from the very beginning.
Success of Project 636 series is also demonstrated by the fact that Rus- sian Ministry of Defence ordered six submarines of this class for Black Sea Fleet of Russian Federation. On 26 June 2014, the 61st Kilo-class sub- marine, Rostov-on-Don was launched, and the 62nd submarine, Stary Oscol, was launched on 28 August. Such a mass production, with construction being in progress, speaks about high demand for Russian military ships of similar purpose. Processing line of Admiralty Shipyards is loaded for several years ahead. Fourth subma- rine of Project 636, Krasnodar, for Russian Navy, was laid in last winter. Two more Diesel-electric submarines – Velikiy Novgorod and Kolpino will be laid in October 2014.
Project 636 is characterized by high combat effectiveness, it is notable for optimal combination of acoustic stealth and target detection range, the latest navigation complex, mod- ern automated information-and-con- trol system, powerful quick response missile-torpedo weapon.
Diesel-electric submarines of Project 636 is a rational combination of high- quality technical solutions proven by time and new breakthrough deci- sions occurred as a result of scientific researches and experimental design works carried out in Russia during recent years. The ship gained a mod- ern missile-torpedo weapon, it is equipped with radio-electronic sen- sor complexes.
In the same time, Ministry of Defence of RF is ordering non-nuclear subma- rines of fourth generation. Thus, the first serial submarine of Project 677 Lada now is constructed under im- proved design developed by CDB ME “Rubin” at Admiralty Shipyards, and signing of a contract for third ship is expected in the nearest future.

While providing the Russian Federa- tion Navy with submarines of fourth generation, CDB “Rubin” is already working on the next generation in or- der to ensure the continuity of progress in technology that satisfies the most up-to-date requirements. One of the main characteristics of future subma- rines is maximum stealth that in par- ticular can be achieved by increasing the time of submarine staying under- water. Therefore CDB “Rubin” works on development and improvement of Air-Independent Propulsion Plant. Another direction of works on pro- spective non-nuclear submarines can lie in the development of an integral platform / modularity / and integra- tion of various weapon systems into one design.
CDB “Rubin” has always been at the leading edge of shipbuilding technol- ogies. Along with activities directed on creation of defence products we remain actively involved in engineer- ing of marine facilities for offshore development keeping the balance of mutual influence of defence and civil technologies.
For us the most significant event in this field of activity has become the delivery of the first offshore ice- resistant platform “Prirazlomnaya” designed in Russia for drilling and production on Arctic shelf to the cus- tomer “Gazprom Neft Shelf”. A great number of companies have been en- gaged in the construction process of the platform, but the ideology has been established by “Rubin”. This ideology has been remained and im-
plemented. While working on the Project “Prirazlomnaya” we have es- sentially enlarged scientific and engi- neering potential of our bureau. To- day we are capable to work actually in any existing 3D modelling system, and this allows our specialists to un- dertake any work on designing off- shore objects.
Through the order placed by OAO “Gazprom” CDB “Rubin” has made the concept design of intermediate helicopter platform used for shifting of personnel working on the plat- form at the field. The platform with self-contained power supply and sat- ellite communication is designed for round-the-clock and round-the-year operation during 40 years. The plat- form can carry up to five helicopters and accommodate up to hundred transit passengers.
CDB “Rubin” has accumulated enough engineering experience to be a leading designer of offshore produc- tion complexes under contracts with oil-and-gas companies possessing licences for development of fields. The scientific and industrial poten- tial of national shipbuilding industry allows to design ice-resistant plat- forms, transport systems for export- ing of crude materials, including ice- going tankers, icebreakers, offshore terminals and oil storage facilities. Beyond that, complexes for develop- ment of fields located under ice and underwater transportation of oil and gas are under design.
