AD VER TORIAL PROJECT 22460E

PATROL SHIP: A «RUBY» IN THE RUSSIAN NAVY’S CROWN

The organizers, guests and spec-

tators of the 22nd Olympic Winter Games could enjoy not only the beau- tiful performances of their sports idols. A beautiful ship, which differed sharply from passenger vessels, pleasure boats and yachts in its strict graceful forms and deck superstructures, could also be seen in the roadstead of the port of Sochi from the coastal boulevards and embankment of the Olympic Park. This is a Project 22460 Rubin (Ruby) class border patrol ship, which success- fully ensured security of the Olympic Games in Sochi jointly with another ship of the same project operated by the RF Russian Border Guard Service. Today the naval forces play a lead-

ing role in the life of almost every coastal country and are one of the most combat-ready, universal and enduring services of the armed forces, capable

of handling a wide range of missions not only on high seas, but also in the coastal areas of the likely land theat- ers of operations. Their participation in providing reliable security at milestone social and political events, whether it’s Olympic Games, visits or meetings of the heads of state, is just one aspect of their activities. Maritime powers develop modern

naval doctrines and concepts with re- gard to countering regional conflicts and transnational threats, WPD pro- liferation, preventing destabilization of separate regions and countries. In peacetime, almost every maritime na- tion faces the need to ensure reliable protection of its borders in the terri- torial sea, protect its marine bio and energy resources in the exclusive eco- nomic zones, counter international ter- rorism, smuggling, drug trafficking, pi-

racy, illegal migration, as well as carry out rescue operations. However, not all countries are ca-

pable of building combatant ships and boats for their navies. In addition, the navy of each coastal country has its own specifics. Some navies need air- craft carriers, large surface ships and large submarines, while others do with modern fast well-armed boats. That is why the naval hardware procurement is a real way to strengthen the national navies. JSC Rosoboronexport is the sole Rus-

sian state-owned intermediary agency responsible for export of the full range of defense and dual-use end products, technologies and services. Among the best models of military hardware, the Company presents advanced products from the Russian shipbuilding indus- try on the world arms market, which
