RESIDENCE HALL COMMUNITY COMMITMENT

DePaul University takes a comprehensive and holistic approach to the reality of alcohol and drug use. Our approach offers practical strategies to reduce the unhealthy use of substances and their associated harms while promoting healthy and responsible decision-making. The university’s commitment in this matter incorporates the Vincentian values of realism, collaboration and simplicity that seek to help and support students while at the same time instilling responsibility.

The DePaul community affirms the importance of, respect for and adherence to state and federal laws governing the sale, use, possession and transportation of alcohol and other substances. The university seeks to educate students concerning their responsibilities around substance use, the potential consequences of violating established law and university policy, and the benefits of healthy and responsible decision-making.

DePaul University recognizes that some students will make unhealthy and irresponsible choices regarding alcohol and drug use. The university seeks to provide a variety of resources to students with the goal of motivating them to make decisions that are healthy, lawful and responsible, and that reflect their values and lead toward their success.

I understand the use of alcohol for residential students under the age of 21, tobacco products and illegal drugs are not permitted within the residence hall. This policy applies to all areas of the residence hall including, but not limited to, rooms, apartments, hallways, bathrooms, stairwells and lounges.

I understand that because DePaul is committed to the health and safety of its residents and guests, I may be transported to the hospital if I am intoxicated (or otherwise under the influence of prohibited substances) in the residence halls and I demonstrate behaviors inconsistent with articulated policies and standards.

I understand that DePaul University may call the Chicago Police Department if I, or any of my guests, are in possession of illegal substances.

I agree not to possess alcohol or other illegal drugs inside my room or residence hall/apartment.

I understand that I am responsible for the conduct of my guests and I will be held accountable for their actions should they violate any university policy.

I understand that violating this agreement may result in the termination of my Housing Agreement at DePaul University.
