communication have changed a bit though, as tour attendees can listen to rancher interviews broad- cast over an open radio station fre- quency from a transmitter device in a pickup, instead of listening to the interview over a loudspeaker. We still have a caravan of 100-

enough moisture, the tour will pass by the cattle slowly from the road. While not ideal, it’s a small price to pay for abundant rainfall. The tour still leaves Pawhuska

at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday morning of the convention weekend, in a pre-determined direction of travel for that year. The tour has from 5 to 7 cattle stops each year, usually 1 per participating ranch. The barbecue at the end of the

tour was historically hosted by the last ranch on the tour. However, in 2013, the OCCA members decided to move their other big event for the weekend, the Ben Johnson Me- morial Steer Roping, from Sunday (Fathers’ Day) to Saturday. Now the barbecue is enjoyed by all in the air conditioned Ag Building at the Osage County Fairgrounds, with the steer roping following at 3:00 p.m. in the large outdoor arena.
