ELCOME TO THE FIRST EVER DIGITAL EXCLUSIVE ISSUE OF PRIME journal. With many of you enjoying your summer vacation away from the office, we wanted to be sure you didn’t miss out on reading the latest peer-reviewed content PRIME has to offer. As well as being available on the website, you can also view the digital page-turning edition on your laptop, tablet or smartphone wherever you are enjoying the summer.
It is no secret that more people are turning to websites and other digital products for their
information, and this trend is only going to continue as more of us own smartphones with faster, more reliable Internet connections. According to a study by ComScore, smartphone ownership in the top five EU markets is already over 50% of the mobile population. With this gradual shift to a more digital world it is important for PRIME to be accessible in as many formats as possible to reach you: the reader. We are proud of our website, which hosts all the content from the journal days before the
print copy has landed on desks, as well as our digital edition, which offers an exact replica of our print journal in a format you can view on almost any digital device. We also work hard to bring you the latest news from around the aesthetic and anti-ageing medicine industry to keep you up-to-date with all the latest developments, and ensure PRIME remains your most trusted source of information. As anyone who has watched an infant swipe their finger across a tablet or smartphone will know, digital devices will soon become the primary source of information and media consumption. It is already well on its way, as a recent Reuters digital report found that at least half of those aged under 35 said their main source of news was the Internet. A YouGov poll also revealed smartphone ownership among those aged 16–24 was twice as high as the rest of the UK population. With this in mind, it is clear that if we wish to keep PRIME relevant and accessible in the future, we have to embrace the technology we have at our disposal. If we fail to do so, we may find ourselves viewed as a relict of an older time; as one father said when viewing the confused look of his infant daughter who was trying to swipe and pinch the page of a print magazine as if it were a tablet, ‘A magazine is an iPad that does not work.’ That is not to say we have turned our back on print, we understand that
you still enjoy reading our print edition and we still enjoy making it. You can rest assured the September issue of PRIME Europe will be available across all formats, print included. So whether you are reading this from a beach resort, alpine chalet or even your garden, enjoy the issue and please feel free to get in touch with your views on our digital and print editions.
