ing involves maintaining focus and concentration on the task at hand. It is easy to let the mind stray during prac- tice, however, if you do this all the time it will become “permanent” and you won’t have the ability to really fo- cus during the match. The last thing I’d like to discuss is time management.

It sounds simple and seems like something too basic to warrant spending much effort on. However, I am con- stantly seeing people wasting valuable training time. You will never see me with my cell phone up on the fi ring line. When I am out on the fi ring line training, shooting is the only thing I’m focused on at that time. I’m work- ing on becoming the best in the world and that doesn’t include updating my Facebook status or answering texts in between shots. I understand people are busy and quite often have

a lot going in their daily lives, meaning they may only have an hour or so for training. You must make the best use of that time possible. Also, be organized. I’ve seen people show up at the range missing all kinds of equip- ment because it was sprawled out all over the house. Being organized will also help cut down the time it takes to set up and get ready. Everything should have a place in your bag so it is easy to fi nd. There is no reason to be needlessly rummaging through your equipment bag every time you get your gun ready to shoot. The last aspect of time management relates back

to your training plan. Having put in the time earlier to determine what you need to work on will allow you to get to the range knowing exactly what you are doing that training session. There is no need to debate whether to shoot kneeling or standing fi rst. You can simply come in, get set up, and get right to training. Practice is one of the most important things we do as

athletes. In fact, we spend far more time practicing than actually competing, therefore, it is absolutely imperative it is done in the most effective manner possible.

Oth-

erwise, you are simply making something “permanent” that is really of no use when you are standing out on the fi ring line in the biggest competition of your life.
