example; it’s far slower and less interesting to watch than a World Cup finals match in my opinion, but it’s hugely popular and is broad- casted nationally with great success. The new rules be- ing instated by the ISSF are going to benefit the rise of shooting in the US so long as we can all work together to raise awareness of the shooting sports and keep an emphasis on marksman- ship and safety to change the stigma surrounding guns in our country.
What do you want to be when you grow up? I want to act on Broad-
way. I’m currently pursuing a Film and Media Arts BA with a minor in Theatre at the University of Utah, but as far as my career goals my first choice is stage acting, followed by film acting and animated film/ video game voice acting. I’m a performer at heart, and entertaining what every fiber of my being longs to do. I’ve fallen more deeply in love with the stage than I originally thought, and it has become one of the few pursuits that precedes shooting.
What do you like to do when you’re not shoot- ing?
I’ve always loved the
power film has over an audiences’ emotions and the mystique of the cinema. It’s the culmination of every art, and I think that’s one of the things I love about it. I’ve always enjoyed singing, but since my senior year in high school when I found out I can sing well, I enjoy it even more. I’ve been play-
ing the guitar for several years, and that’s one of my favorite ways to wind down. I love my music, and for me songs are almost like mood steroids; they can calm me, stoke me, lift me up, and put me under. As an actor I’m all about emotional empathy, and music is one of the noblest forms of cre- ative emotional expression.
Tell me what being a member of the USA Shooting Team means to you?
It means I’m a repre-
sentative of far more than just myself or my family.
I’m a representative of the country I love and the ideals it was founded on. It means I am in the company of individuals who will always support me, and who I will always seek to support. It means that I am an ambas- sador of my sport and the art of marksmanship.
You were a 2012 State Drama Champion in Original Humorous cat- egory. So, what kind of comedy do you like and what kinds of things do you do to get people to laugh?
This is a killer question. I guess it helps to start with whose comedy I like. I’m a big fan of British comedy, Monty Python and the like. Mel Brooks is probably my favorite director, if you watch his movies you can get a good idea for what I think is funny. I am a big fan of slapstick, comedy of action rather than words, as well as a big fan of very lin- guistic comedy (Stephen Fry is a master of this, I think he’s brilliant), comedy that takes language and turns it on its side. I suppose I like comedy that is zany and unexpected.
