Sol Hotels unveils four resort categories for its 70 hotels Rebekah Commane
Sol Hotels & Resorts is to split its 70 properties into four new resort categories aimed at different markets. Sol Hotels will remain the name
for its mainstream hotels aimed at the family market. Sol House properties will have a
design emphasis and be aimed at adults in their 20s and 30s. The Sol Beach House category will be adult-only and is described as ‘your house on the beach’. It is aimed at those seeking a ‘hippie-chic’ style of holiday. The fourth category, Sol Katmandu Park and Resort, is branded as a fun and innovative ‘play and stay’ experience
integrated into a theme park. It was recently launched as part of the third stage of the Calvia Beach resort in Majorca. Three of the categories have

Melia adds Egypt hotels Melia Hotels International is to open two Sol hotels in the Red Sea area of Egypt. The 440-room Sol Taba and 217-room Sol Dahab will both open in July. Sol already operates four hotels in Sharm el-Sheikh.
Hotel Dubrovnik Palace reopens after revamp The Hotel Dubrovnik Palace in Croatia has reopened with a new look following a six-month refurbishment. All 308 rooms offer private balconies and sea views and have been decorated in contemporary style.

Hotels International’s strategy to upgrade its brands and products. All four hotel categories have common attributes: beachside locations, lagoon-style pools, activities programme and original dining options. Each resort also has its own entertainment programme, featuring children’s and adults’ activities, shows, sports and live music. New buffets, snack bars and drinks menus have also been introduced.

Park Hyatt New York plans 25th-floor spa The Park Hyatt New York has unveiled plans for a 13,000sq ft spa on the hotel’s 25th floor. Named Nalai, meaning serenity, the spa will offer a customised spa experiences inspired by Park Hyatt spas around the world. Treatments will cost from $350.

Mandarin Oriental to run new hotel in Manila The Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group is to manage a new 275-room luxury hotel in the heart of Metro Manila in the Philippines, scheduled to open in 2020. The group’s existing Mandarin Oriental on Makati Avenue in Manila is due to close this year.
