Redflex hails Home Office Approval for its fixed enforce- ment systems
British and Australian ITS companies tie up to create global reach
Redflex Traffic Systems has received UK Home Office type approval (HOTA) for its suite of fixed red light and speed enforcement systems, comprising RED- FLEXred, REDFLEXspeed and REDFLEXred-speed. Te company says that,
although the system accurately captures intersection red light, speed or simultaneous red light and speed offences, Home Office approval has been given for single red light and speed offences only. Speeding through a green
light will be seen as a speed offence; crossing a red light will carry the usual red light violation penalty. Speed- ing through a red light will be prosecuted as a red light violation, although police have discretion on whether the speeding element should be prosecuted. Te systems utilise an 11
megapixel high resolution digital camera to provide high resolution colour images for reliable offence verification across up to six lanes of traffic. Ricardo Fiusco, Redflex
CEO says: “We are delighted that the Redflex range of speed and red light enforcement systems has been awarded UK type approval, one of the most stringent in the world. Te timing for this coincides with our plans for the UK and European markets.”

British ITS company P&D Specialist Services (Holdings) Ltd and Australian firm Bartco are hailing their two joint ventures as an opportunity to bring the benefits of their expanding range of solutions to new markets. Te companies announced
their tie-ups at Intertraf- fic Amsterdam and say they expect this to establish them as truly international players. From 1st June, Bartco UK will
become the UK’s first manufac- turer of portable, solar powered, five colour matrix variable message signs (VMS). Based in Derbyshire, Bartco UK will be the sales and manufacturing division of Bartco’s portable electronic VMS, and the associated Solar 2014 multi-use trailer platform. Tese products will be avail- able to the UK, European and northern hemisphere markets. Bartco UK will be located
alongside Mobile Visual Informa- tion Systems (MVIS) Ltd, which will continue to manufacture portable ITS solutions including ANPR, CCTV, radar, journey time monitoring and lighting.
While the Bartco brand VMS
will still be available via MVIS Ltd as part of its rental business, the signs will now also be sold directly to the UK and Euro- pean markets by Bartco UK. Established in Australia in 1995,
Bartco has made its name as an innovator, bringing to market a range of portable solar powered traffic equipment. Its five colour matrix VMS were the first to hit the UK market in 2011. Te signs made their major UK
debut on London’s 2012 Olympic Route Network (ORN) as part of a joint venture between P&D Spe- cialist Services and Colour Mobile VMS, now MVIS Ltd. In what was believed to be the largest single deployment of solar powered VMS in the world, almost 200 units were employed for the network. Te VMS are programmed by
the WebStudio cloud-based sign management and asset track- ing soſtware system and Bartco recently launched the world’s first VMS messaging app, CurbSiteLite which allows easy management from a Smartphone.

Te other venture sees MVIS
Ltd expanding into Australia to market MVIS Ltd’s range of products across Australia and the southern hemisphere, bringing the benefits of MVIS Ltd’s specialised temporary ITS solutions within the easy reach of a new international market. Bartco Australia MD Troy
Wollard says “Bartco will now be able to respond with greater agility to customer demand in the UK, Europe and northern hemisphere, cost-effectively creating and delivering VMS with speed, while MVIS Ltd’s evolv- ing, technologically advanced, tailor-made ITS solutions will be within easy reach of Australia and the southern hemisphere.” UK MD Pat Musgrave added:
“We have secured Highways Agency approval for the five colour VMS, and have lobbied hard to promote acceptance throughout the UK’s Highway industry to make this all possible. “Tings are now progressing
rapidly in the right direction, with forward-thinking companies such as A-one+ and Balfour Beatty
