for men. What this leads to clinically is hot fl ashes, anxiety, insomnia, dry skin, vaginal dryness and so on. Why???? The excess of yang activity has depleted the yin that is so sacred to women. In younger women I see this pattern from excessive physical exercise. There’s a lot of pressure on young women to be sculpted and thin—again a male model that is detrimental to women’s health. In my twenties I was one of these women; I spent a lot of energy sculpting my physique. Men and women praised me for my hard work, but it came at a cost. My seemingly healthy body was plagued with painful menstruation, migraine headaches, and I suffered from horrible nightmares. These symptoms are a direct result of excessive yang activity with lack of yin nourishment. Like the fl ames of a fi re, yang energy rises to the head, causing headaches and mental restlessness. It all comes back to balance. If you train hard, you need to match the physical demands with more nourishment and rest. Your nutritional needs can be met with proper food therapy and herbal supplementation. Good quality sleep is crucial, but I am also talking about quieting the mind with mediation and/or other relaxation techniques.

I hope this information inspires

women to create balance in their lives. By harnessing our feminine yin energy we align ourselves with our greatest strength. We can lead others by supporting them. By embracing our curves, we allow other women to do the same. We will all be happier and healthier as a result!
