Hyden/Bourne and Carico/Hochevar earn bids into FIVB event as USA Volleyball unveils new qualifi cation program

he teams of John Hyden/Tri Bourne and Lane Carico/Brittany Hochevar capitalized on a new USA Volleyball policy that allows teams to earn their way into FIVB Grand Slams on American sand. Both teams advanced out of four-team qualifi er tour- naments held March 26 at the Annenberg Beach House in Santa Monica.

Hyden/Bourne defeated Will Montgomery /Stafford Slick, while Carico/Hochevar swept Whitney Pavlik/ Jennifer Fopma in their respective fi nals to earn bids to the FIVB Shanghai Jinshan Grand Slam April 29-May 4 in China.


Hyden/Bourne will join the teams of Jake Gibb/ Casey Patterson, Sean Rosenthal/Phil Dalhausser and Nick Lucena/Ryan Doherty in the men’s fi eld. Carico/ Hochevar will be part of the draw that includes Kerri Waslh Jennings/April Ross, Summer Ross/Emily Day and Brooke Sweat/Lauren Fendrick.


Both Hyden/Bourne and Carico/Hochevar must advance out of the qualifi er in Shanghai to join their compatriots in the main draw in China.
