Going Loco in Las Vegas!

Adventuredome adds S&S coaster E

Guests at The Adventuredome at Circus Circus Las Vegas can now go “loco” on a new rollercoaster from S&S

Worldwide, only the second of its kind in the United States

S&S introduces

4D FreeSpin S&S Worldwide has introduced a new version of its 4th Dimension rollercoaster – and here’s an exclusive shot of the ride being tested at the S&S plant in Utah. The 4D FreeSpin uses magnetics to rotate the seats rather than the double-rail rack-and-pinion gearing used on existing 4th Dimension Coasters like X2 at Six Flags Magic Mountain and its sister rides in Japan and China. “We’ve been working on the

4D FreeSpin for years,” says an S&S spokesperson. “Our number one request has been for a 4th Dimension coaster, but it has been too expensive for many customers. The 4D FreeSpin hits the sweet spot of delivering the 4D experience at a good price point and with a small footprint.”

l Loco is the latest ride of its kind from the Utah manufacturer, the first to use S&S’ catalogue name, and the first in the country to be sited indoors, where it sits beneath the pink tinted glass roof of The Adventuredome. The attraction delivers a 72- second ride complete with G drops, gravity-defying turns and over-the-edge twists. The soaring, eye-catching structure offers an exhilarating ride experience packed into a small footprint. Reaching a maximum speed of 45 mph (72kpm), El Loco drops, turns and twists its riders around 1,384ft (422m) of striking yellow track. The ride begins with a 90ft ascent followed by a high lateral G hairpin turn and a greater-than- straight-down (120°) diving drop producing a negative 1.5 “vertical G.” A lateral floater then transitions into a bizarre 45° outwardly banked curve and doughnut roll, followed by a 180° turn that races over the edge into a barrel roll. A reverse 240° roll then zooms into an inverted drop before coming to a sudden and complete stop.

Allowing the vehicle to make tighter and faster turns, El Loco’s small four-person cars feature an

open-carriage design. With a surround-sound system built into each seat, riders also will enjoy a custom

soundtrack featuring Latin, hip hop or rock music. Park World picks Latin. “El Loco offers our guests something they have never experienced before,” notes Adventuredome vice-president of operations Tom Nolan. “Riders enjoy twists, turns and drops in such close proximity to our other rides that for an instant, they get the sensation that they may run into Canyon Blaster [looping coaster] or even touch the top of the dome.” El Loco replaces a log flume ride at The Adventuredome, which is located at the far end of the Las Vegas Strip. Other S&S El Loco coasters can be found in Indiana, the UK, France, Australia, China and soon Japan.
