Lego Movie Experience Legoland parks celebrate new film

With the recent release of The Lego Movie, one Legoland park in particular has been getting in on the action in a big way. At Legoland California Resort, guests could step onto a Lego soundstage, see movie footage and interviews plus explore some of the Lego models that helped inspire the new animated 3D adventure. The Lego Movie Experience features more than 1,200 models made out of more than three million Lego bricks. Featured are some of the worlds featured in the film such

as Bricksburg, Middle Zealand, Old West, Cloud Cuckooland and Octane Tower. The Lego Movie, which grossed more than $200 million worldwide in its first two weeks at the box office, tells the tale of Emmet, an ordinary, rules- following, perfectly average Lego mini figure who is mistakenly identified as the most extraordinary person and the key to saving the world. Plenty of action and slick humour follows. Meanwhile at Legoland Florida, the park was due to host a Lego movie weekend on 8/9 March.

Play time for BALPPA Changes to the dates

of school holidays and a proposal for longer school days were both cited as being of major significance to the play centre and attractions sector at a recent meeting of the British Association of Leisure Parks, Piers and Attractions’ (BALPPA) FEC sub group.

The gathering took place last month at 360 Play’s children’s entertainment centre in Leicester and also included discussion on social media, business expansion, benchmarking and pricing.

Attendees were given a tour of 360 Play facilities by managing director Duncan Philipps, seen here (right) with BALPPA chief executive Paul Kelly, BALPPA FEC consultant Kate Costin (left) and Janice Dunphy, representing BALPPA’s FECA (family entertainment centre and attractions) members.

The UK’s Farm Attraction of the Year for 2014 is Adam Henson’s Cotswold Farm Park. This and winners and six other categories were announced during the National Farm Attractions Network’s (NFAN) annual conference and trade show at The Majestic Hotel in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, on 11/12 February. Among the presentations was an interestingly-titled session by Tom

Pearcy from York Maze called The Team: how a farmer reluctantly went to Disney and had a revelation. Approximately 50 companies provided supporting trade stands and an awards dinner was held on the eve of the event following a tour to Cannon Hall Farm in South Yorkshire.
