www.bowser-trains.com. Bowser Manufacturing has released a new model of the Baldwin DS 4-4- 1000 one thousand horsepower switch- ing locomotive. Between 1946 and 1951, Baldwin built 502 DS 4-4-1000 locomo- tives for more than 40 different rail- roads. These locomotives were built in two prime mover configurations, one with the 606NA naturally aspirated en- gine (56 units) and one with the 606SC supercharged engine (446 units). Our sample represents one of two lo- comotives (Nos. 1001 and 1002) pur- chased by the Norfolk Southern Rail- way. These locomotives were equipped with the 606NA prime mover. The model is decorated in the red and black with yellow trim paint scheme. The col- or separations are very crisp and clean, and the lettering, in black, white and yellow, is clearly printed. Even the minute “Emergency Brake Valve” and builder’s plate lettering are legible un- der a magnifying glass.
