Welcome T

he most important stadium development body in the world is arguably the National Football League (NFL) in the USA. It grants up

to $200 million for stadium projects, which encourages teams and cities to be positive with their stadium plans. Just take a look in this issue’s North America supplement to get an idea of its effect. Elite sports leagues, existing and about to be formed, should consider adopting this model. The investment is in the league’s infrastructure, in its ability to draw crowds, to earn matchday revenue and generate the excitement that broadcasters crave. In other words, the investment is in the league’s commercial success..

Thanks for your suggestions for our 10 most eagerly awaited stadiums. We included some, but not all, of your suggestions. Looking ahead to 2014, I’d welcome your article ideas and your venue news, including staff appointments and awards received, for our weekly Digest newsletter. Sign up at www.psam.uk.com/contact or use the QR code on the left- hand side of this page if you aren’t already receiving this. Are you working on a great new venue project which is opening in 2014 or 2015 and you’d like us to publish a venue profi le? My email is below and I look forward to hearing from you.

We hope you enjoy this Winter edition – our Showcase Special. We wish you a happy new year and look forward to keeping you up to date with sport architecture and venue development and exploitation. Look out for the Spring issue in March 2014.
