year’s entry focused on the recent replacing of the company’s ten year old “SupplierWeek” handset procurementmodel with a new initiative called “Terminals Commercial”.The newmodel combines the commercial and procurement function and is responsible for the agreements and terms, negotiations and relationships with all suppliers that deliver terminal products. Representing a€7bn spend category, the newmodel is the result of a team of global and local experts working together to produce one true global team, but as a hybrid organisation with the central team driving the strategic suppliermanagement, targets and results, and local teamsmanaging the local requirements down to operational execution. However, GlaxoSmithKline has recently undertaken a major crossbordertransformationofits function forthe

purchase of laboratory supplies and equipment. This project has radically changed historic procurement processes. It has rationalised and simplified the supply base by 90 per cent, implemented systems and controls to increase compliance to over 95 per cent – while reducing cycle times, removingwaste at all levels and delivering significant sustainable value of multiple millions into the business. The judges say: “This is a highly innovative

project for PharmaR&D, bringing good procure- ment processes to an area that has traditionally been seen as science only. They have demonstrated excellent suppliermanagement and key suppliers have been identified andmanaged as partners.” For this reason the judges choseGlaxoSmithKline.

Brower have redefined the restaurant’s supply chain, moving away froma boxmoving service to one that takes the burden off the restaurants, so that they can focus on the customer.Under the new structure, the customer service operationwas decentralised to regional teams, numerous surveys were used to gain feedback, cross functional meetingswere introduced and a range of service enhancing initiativeswere introduced. The judges found the resulting benefits and improvements impressive, with on-time delivery increasing to 94 per cent, order proposal accuracy rising to 99.5 per cent and order lead-times reduced by 25 per cent. Jaguar Land RoverwithUnipart Logisticswere

able to demonstrate to the judges the reach and great complexity of Jaguar’s global aftermarket support operation. The results of the close collaboration between the two companies could clearly be seen in the impressive customer service statistics and customer satisfaction figures reported both by themselves and by external organisations.

But then there was the entry fromTelefónicaUK

withDHLSupply Chain. This too demonstrated excellence in aligning the supply chain to the needs of the customer.Telefónica’s determination to constantly improve the customer experience was clearly evident.WorkingwithDHL Supply Chain in a close collaboration that stretches backmany years, the two companies have created a unified team around insights andmanagement information that has constantly and successfully, engaged in trying to understand the customer, their desired requirements and the end-to-end supply chain that enables those desires to bemet.
