LINDA CAROL PORTERFIELD, GRI
President’s P erspective Dear Georgia REALTORS, ®
“Sunsational”… that’s how I would describe our GAR Annual Conven- tion & Expo held in Destin, Fla., this past September! From the great educational classes to the fun-filled “Ride the Wave” party on Thurs- day evening, everyone who attended had wonderful networking and learning opportunities. The energy level was so inspiring — we could certainly tell the market is improv ing by the overall mood of the convention. REALTORS®
who have weathered the storm are reaping the benefits of a real estate market on the upswing!
As we consider the changes we’ve been through, we realize we are stronger and wiser now more than ever. We also realize we must be as diligent as ever in protecting private property rights. That is why I invite you to join us in February 2014 for our Inaugural & Legislative Conference in Atlanta. We will once again organize and implement our “REALTOR® Day at the Capitol” to show our strength and unity in making Georgia the greatest place on earth to own real estate.
We invite all GAR members to join us with both their attendance and their RPAC investments as we lead the charge for the great state of Georgia. Along with our visit to the Capitol, we will offer quality and relevant continuing education classes. As technology continues to change rapidly, we want our Georgia REALTORS®
to know and
understand the latest tools of the trade and how to use them effectively. We also want to develop leaders and to offer learning opportunities to our commercial practitioners, as well as our brokers and managers. Please turn to the special section in the middle of this magazine to find out about our education and networking opportunities at the Inaugural & Legislative Conference. We had more than 850 in attendance this past January—don’t miss this opportunity to network and learn from the sharpest minds in Georgia real estate!
The Georgia General Assembly will convene for the 2014 Legislative Session in January and will work on a variety of legislation that could potentially impact real estate and private property rights in our state. Our State and Local Government Affairs Committee will meet on Mondays while the Georgia General Assembly is in session. All GAR members are welcomed and encouraged to participate in these meetings, whether by attending the meetings in person or via videoconference from several convenient sites around the state. For more information on attending these meetings and getting involved in our Governmental Affairs activities, please visit

I want to thank my predecessor, Robin Lance, for an amazing job as 2013 GAR President. Robin, you are an out - standing leader and I was honored to serve as President-Elect alongside you. Also, I want to congratulate our 2013 REALTOR®
read more about Faron and his remarkable accomplishments.
