New brake motor offers instantaneous brake engagement
New from Carpanelli is an inverter driven brake motor designed to provide instantaneous brake engagement. This features an electromagnetic spring- applied, failsafe brake whose engagement is directly activated by the inverter. No external signal is required as the brake is wired directly into the terminal box. The MAI brake motor provides increased braking accuracy and con- trol, important qualities for applications involving lifting and lowering. Specially design windings enable it to produce stable magnetic flux and variable frequency within a range of 5-145Hz with delta connected motors and three phase 400V inverters set at 87Hz. This allows direct connection to the motor, allowing both brake and motor to be powered by the inverter. Different performance characteristics can be set to suit the application by changing inverter parameters. Carpanelli

The adhesive offers a thermal conductivity of 3.5W/m-K and a shear strength of 3.15MPa when cured. It also offers high bond strength, which enables it to be used for applications including PCB attachment, and mild elastic properties which help alleviate Coefficient of Thermal Expansion (CTE) stresses during thermal cycling. In addition, its thixotropic properties promote easy flowing during assembly, with minimal stress on fragile components. Torque sensors for power steering New models have been added to Bourns’ range of non-contacting torque
sensors for electric power assisted steering (EPAS) automotive applica- tions. These include a torque-only sensor (TOS) that measures the relative shift angle between two rotating shafts to determine how much power assistance is required. This collectively measures torque, steering wheel angle and speed. Also new is a torque index sensor (TIS) which has a switch that functions by counting the number of turns of the steering shaft. This enables a more cost-effective solution when the total EPAS system cost is considered, explains the company.
