Connectivity solution a ‘step forward for machine safety’ Described as a ‘major step forward for machine

performance to PLe integrity.

safety’, the SICK Flexi Loop connectivity solution offers new dimensions of scalability, diagnostic insight and I/O connection capacity. This IP67 solution permits the series connection of dual channel devices, whilst allowing high diag- nostic coverage and eliminating the potential for fault masking. It is a fully open system and can accommodate standard sensor/switch devices from any vendor. As a field I/O system, Flexi Loop allows a designer to connect any safety system in series with another, without any compromise of the safety system

Features include a capacity to cascade up to 32 safety sensors/switches on one loop and to create up to eight separate loops, and it will provide up to 256 sensors on eight dual channel inputs. It is also simple to install as a fully cascadable system, using standard cable

with M12/5-pin connectors.

Flexi Loop provides intelligent built-in diagnos- tics and indicates loop status, plus each of the safe and standard inputs and standard outputs. SICK

Realising there was a requirement for another variant of the FX3G mid-range PLC, Mitsubishi Electric has introduced the FX3GE, aimed at those wishing to deploy a connected, compact, PLC with powerful control capabilities at minimum costs. Expansion modules can be added on both sides of the CPU, giving 10,000 permeations of system configuration. The new FX3GE CPU features an Ethernet interface, making it possible to share data at up to 10/100mbps with HMIs and SCADA systems, plus built-in analogue I/O. This means control via the FX3 PID algorithm is easy. The unit is programmed by the GXWorks2 software which offers total flexibility and choice, allowing the designer to choose a simple ladder style programming method, or the more advanced structured style. FX3GE is also included in the comprehensive iQWorks software, allowing users to easily configure systems using Mitsubishi’s GOT1000 HMIs and motion products, as well as the FX3 PLCs in a single, integrated software package. According to the company, both versions – 24 and 40 I/O variants – cost 25% less than the standard configuration. Mitsubishi Electric

Each system can be mounted on top of the machine or on a side panel, with wall and base mounting brackets available in two sizes. For the ideal load capacity, support sections are constructed from an oval-shaped aluminium section. Rittal

Support arms for

machine interfaces Rittal’s new range of modular support arm systems provide an ergonomic interface between machines, control devices and operators. These are said to make it easy to turn, lift and swivel control panels with precision. The arms offer the user consistency in both function and installation, and can be implemented on loads in the range of 60, 120, and 180kg (based on a jib length of 1m).
