For heavy-duty industrial power-off applications that require high torque and low inertia – such as convey- ors, punch presses, shears, mills and rock crushers – Nexen has introduced dual faced brakes (DFB) and quad faced brakes (QFB).
These high-capacity, spring- engaged brakes have torque capacities that range from 9,000 to 164,800 inch-pounds. They have a simple piston and cylin- der actuator which is sealed with easily serviceable O-rings that reduce maintenance costs, and
are engineered with segmented, non-asbestos friction facings for easy replacement and free-flow cooling air.
Low-inertia friction discs minimise load deceleration time. The dual-faced brakes are engineered with a single-disc assembly, and the quad-faced brakes have a double-disc assembly.
Both brakes are designed for efficiency.
Torque is transmitted through friction discs and splined pressure plates, which maintain alignment and low frictional resistance, the two contributors to fast engagement and disengagement. Efficient O-ring and interface cooling is possible because of the brakes’ fins and air passages. The brake housing is flange mounted to machinery, and the hub is keyed to the shaft. For where remote clutching of ancillary drives or equipment is required, Centa Transmissions has launched a new range of compact electro-magnetic clutches (EMC). Available in seven different sizes from 400 to 7800, the EMC can be fitted directly to the engine SAE flange via a torsionally flexible coupling onto the flywheel, or assembled as a stand-alone unit for auxiliary drives, from the non-flywheel end. Given the correct application factors, all items of drive can be accommodated, from high inertia fan drives to hydraulic pumps, and generators or hybrid motors can be added to the clutched or drive end. All PTO requirements can also be accom- modated. The EMC is compatible with all types of auxiliary drives. It can be easily integrated into any propulsion drive and application, with varying power for large capacity operations. The control electronics are sealed in a watertight unit. Centa Transmissions

Elastomere couplings
Ringfeder Power Transmissions’ GERWAH portfolio of pluggable elastomere couplings absorb vibration and shock in drives, and guarantee a precise and smooth power transmission. According to the company, these compact couplings have excellent running performance and compensate for radial, axial and angular misalign- ments. Depending on their dimensions, they are fit for transmitting torques of up to 2.400 newton metres.

Depending on the frame size, hubs are either made of high-strength aluminium or steel. Customers can choose among five standard degrees of hardness, allow- ing them to optimise performance and adapt the couplings to their requirements in terms of torsional rigidity and vibration behaviour.
