Lexettes, Chicago Jazz to represent U.S. The Lexettes and Chicago Jazz will rep-
resent the United States at the 2014 Junior World Challenge Cup to be held in Neuchat- el, Switzerland, March 7–8. The World Junior Team Selection Com-
petition was held January 3–4 2014, in Fond du Lac, Wis. As the U.S. Synchronized Skat- ing Championships is held about a week prior to the Junior World Challenge Cup, this annual event is held to determine the U.S. representatives. The Lexettes of Hayden Recreation Centre FSC were named USA 1 for the sec-
ond year in a row. They skated a technically strong short program, which landed them in second place. Their free skate to mu- sic by Shirley Bassey earned them 107.17 points, enough to win that segment and the event. Chicago Jazz of Chicago FSC, winners
of the short program, finished in second place. They look forward to returning to the event after last competing at the Junior World Challenge Cup in 2009. St. Louis Synergy finished third, while
the Skyliners were fourth. McLoraine Scholarship deadline nearing Skaters interested in the Helen M.
McLoraine Figure Skating Scholarship Pro- gram have until Feb. 19 to submit their ap- plications. The Pioneer Fund, which is a private
family foundation of the late Helen M. McLo- raine, established a college scholarship pro- gram in 2010 to assist eligible current and former amateur and professional ice skaters who dedicated their lives to skating and now wish to pursue a college education. Scholarships are offered each year for
full-time undergraduate study at an accredit- ed institution of the student’s choice. Eligible
individuals are skaters who have competed at least once in a U.S. Figure Skating qualify- ing competition at the novice or higher level in either a men’s, ladies, dance or pairs event. This year, a total of $200,000 in scholar-
ships will be awarded, ranging from $3,000 to $7,000 per scholarship recipient. Scholar- ships will be announced in June 2014. Interested students must complete the
application and submit all required documen- tation to Scholarship Management Services. To apply, go to

america.org/pioneerfund/. Spring Training Camp scheduled U.S. Figure Skating will conduct its
first Spring Training Camp on March 23 in Artesia, Calif. The camp is geared toward pre-juvenile through intermediate-level athletes working to get a competi- tive head start prior to the summer competition season. The Spring Training Camp
is modeled after U.S. Figure Skat- ing’s National Program Compo- nents Camp and will feature elite faculty members selected for their expertise in teaching skills in the program components area.
Several current and former Team
USA skaters will also assist in coaching. Athletes will participate in on- and off- ice sessions designed to improve the core skating and performing skills, including those need- ed to excel in the program
components area. Registration is open until
Feb. 20, with room for the first 80 athletes who register. For more in- formation and to register for the camp, visit
www.usfigureskating.org and click “Athletes” and then “Camps.”
