Regions
SOUTHEAST
As we all transition to the offseason, here are some items of which to be mindful.
There’s not much left to say about the Southeast Region’s Development Team at the USA Triathlon Youth & Junior National Championships. The outcomes say it all — several individual podiums and a team championship. You all rock and for that we salute you.
Also, for those who headed up to Milwaukee for the USA Triathlon Age Group National Championships, thank you for representing the Southeast. A special shout out goes to those who participated in the regional paratriathlon series. We are proud of you laying it on the line and look to make the series bigger and better in 2014. Further, there has been some feisty competition in the Club Series (SERCS). As the series winds down, clubs please get all your score sheets in to Jim Boylan.
As we continue to bring value to members through the
www.cMEcompete.com platform, create a profile, create or join a team and join in on the activity. The Southeast Regional mobile platform continues to be refined. The mobile site is intended to provide you with access to both regional and national activities.
We appreciate all who voted in the regional and national elections. Congratulations to all who to participated in the Aquabike and Long Course Championships in Anderson, S.C. We’ve heard some emotional and fun stories from some of our regional members. Thanks for helping to make this year such a success.
SOUTH MIDWEST
The USA Triathlon South Midwest Region’s season has been an unforgettable one. Due to weather conditions, the regional triathlon championship had to be rescheduled twice. The championship race was held at the TriWaco Olympic-distance race on July 28. Clay Emge of Tyler, Texas and Katrina Menard of Norman, Okla., were crowned regional champions.
Frost Yer Fanny is the South Midwest Region’s annual conference, awards banquet and regional duathlon championship. Every year the event rotates to different venues. The past two events have been held in Dallas and after being held in Houston for two years prior. In 2014 and 2015, the experience will take place in Shreveport, La. The dates for the 2014 Frost Yer Fanny Weekend are Feb. 7-9. Visit
www.frostyerfanny.org for more information.
PACIFIC NORTHWEST
Congratulations to all USA Triathlon Pacific Northwest Region athletes on a successful year of racing.
We had more athletes qualify for the USA Triathlon Age Group National Championships than ever before. There was great racing for the 2014 qualifier at the Portland Triathlon, and we look forward to seeing an even bigger PNW field in Milwaukee next year. Another way to qualify for age group nationals is by placing in the top 10 percent of your age group at any USAT sanctioned event. PNW will post our 2013 regional rankings in February. If you raced in three or more sanctioned events, you will be listed. There’s still time.
USA Triathlon elections were held this fall. Our hope is to continue to promote this sport we love in the PNW. There are 12 seats — some of which are open for appointment — on the regional council. We are looking for a club liaison to help grow club participation. If you have been successful in reaching out to new athletes through club participation, we’d love to have your input.
Planning is in progress for our second annual Spring Seminar. We are accepting letters of interest for coaches and race directors who would like to present. USAT CEUs will be available for the day-long workshop in early March. Athletes, coaches and race directors are all welcome. Venues in consideration are Seattle and Coeur d’Alene. Stay connected with us on Facebook and Twitter for the latest updates.
We want to hear from you. The purpose of the regional council is to promote a multisport lifestyle to as many people as possible. The PNW contributed to the following programs this year: collegiate championships, youth clinics and camps, race director and coaching education, officials clinics, youth Splash and Dash Series, and our regional championship in Portland.
