At the Races
GROFF RACES TO SEVENTH PLACE AT GRAND FINAL
USA Triathlon National Team member and 2012 Olympian Sarah Groff returned to the London Olympic venue on Sept. 14, battling her way to a seventh-place finish — her fourth top-10 finish of 2013 — in the ITU World Triathlon Series Grand Final.


Great Britain’s Non Stanford won Saturday’s showdown, giving her the top spot in the overall World Triathlon Series standings. Aileen Reid of Ireland was second, and Emma Moffatt of Australia finished third. In the overall standings, Jodie Stimpson from Great Britain and Germany’s Anne Haug finished second and third, respectively. Gwen Jorgensen (St. Paul, Minn.) crashed on the second lap of the bike and did not finish the race, but finished the year ranked fourth.

ITU WORLD TRIATHLON SERIES ROUNDUP
HAMBURG MIXED RELAY: The U.S. team of Sarah Groff, Ben Kanute, Gwen Jorgensen and Cameron Dye raced their way to a bronze medal July 21 at the 2013 ITU Mixed Relay World Championships. Each member of the team completed a 300-meter swim, 6.6-kilometer bike and a 1.6-kilometer run to post a final finish time of 1:18:19 en route to bronze, the first medal for the U.S. in this unique event.


HAMBURG SPRINT: Gwen Jorgensen demonstrated her strength on the run as she raced her way to sixth at the July 20 ITU World Triathlon Hamburg, the sixth stop of the 2013 Series. Joe Maloy (Wildwood Crest, N.J.) finished as the top American male in 21st.


STOCKHOLM: Gwen Jorgensen cruised to victory Aug. 24 at ITU World Triathlon Stockholm, logging her third WTS title of the season. Sarah Groff finished eighth. In the men’s race, Greg Billington was the top U.S. finisher in 17th.


KITZBÜHEL: In his WTS debut, Ben Kanute raced his way to 14th place July 6 at ITU World Triathlon Kitzbühel. In the women’s race, Gwen Jorgensen was the top U.S. finisher in 18th place.
