Clubs and programs are encouraged to host an open house during the big Olympic year and to celebrate NSM. Clubs and programs can sign up through Nov. 15. Open house activities can include lessons,
exhibitions, parent meetings, media participa- tion, equipment resales, demonstrations, celebri- ty appearances, DJs, on-ice games, bring-a-friend promotions and raffl es. T ere are 500 NSM open house kits avail-
able, Wehrli-McLaughlin said. She encourages clubs and programs to sign up now to receive one.
“We sold out the last two years,” she said.
Skatefests across the country
Another popular program returns this year as U.S. Figure Skating and Disson Skating host
Destination Sochi Skatefests in each of the four cities where a Disson show will take place during the 2013–2014 season. Skatefests are free, open to the public and provide an opportunity for skaters of all ages to participate in group lessons based on their experience levels while meeting members of the show’s cast. Skatefest events are a wonderful way for
families to experience skating for the fi rst time and current skaters to be inspired by the sport’s Olympic hopefuls and legends. Destination Sochi Skatefests will take place
in the following cities: Friday, Nov. 1 – Pegula Ice Arena at Univer-
sity Park, Pa. 4:30-6 p.m. Th ursday, Nov. 7 – Jacksonville Ice and
Sportsplex–Jacksonville, Fla. 4:30–6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10 – Ice Vault, Wayne, N.J.,
4–5:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13 – Jamestown Arena, James-
