Boutique line Azamara would love to add to the two ships in its fleet, but with the announcement Oceania is spending $50million next year to upgrade its three, the options are now limited to P&O’s Adonia or Pacific Princess and Ocean Princess. Or perhaps Richard Fain could be persuaded to dig into the coffers of parent company Royal Caribbean to produce a new-build.
Lines with no ships currently on order include MSC, which has seen unprecedented growth in recent years culminating in this year’s launch of MSC Preziosa, and Celebrity, whose fifth Solstice-class ship, Celebrity Reflection, launched last year. There are also empty order books for Crystal, Cunard and Disney Cruise Line. But don’t be surprised if those 21 ships on order become 22, or 23, pretty soon!
