This Splendid Poesia E

arlier this year, I had the opportunity to sail aboard MSC Cruises’ stunning MSC Poesia. The third ship in MSC’s

impressive Musica-class when she made her debut in 2008, she is currently sailing in the western Mediterranean and will spend the winter in South America, along with two of her sisters, while MSC Musica will be in the Caribbean. Here are a few things I loved about

MSC Poesia: Décor. From the moment we walked on,

you could see the attention to detail in every public room. The artwork was

hand-picked by the owner’s wife and designed individually. The Zebra Bar was probably the coolest spot on the ship because it looked like zebras attacked it! The Carlo Felice theatre is simply magnifi- cent and one of the most beautiful at sea. Outside areas. Sea days are no problem

with two pools, multiple hot tubs and lots of loungers. One of my favourite areas was the gelato bar located mid-ship outside on Deck 13. Peace and quiet. I can appreciate a line that doesn’t come on the PA system every few minutes telling you about a slot

tournament or bingo extravaganza. The staff respect your privacy and know it’s your vacation. The concept of the guest picking up the daily programme to find out what’s going on for the day rings true on Poesia.

Connection with the sea. While a lot of ships are so large you lose your connection with the sea, Poesia doesn’t. If you don’t have a balcony, it doesn’t matter. The open decks span forward to aft and are on multiple decks. There’s a spot for everyone and I often found myself sitting on the top forward deck, just atop the navigational bridge. It was a spot no-one else seemed to stumble upon. Dining. Food is one thing everyone has an opinion on. For me, this food was excellent. Our first night was formal and I went with blackened scallops with a side of prime rib. On Italian night, I had an amazing portion of homemade lasagna. The pizzeria, sushi restaurant, steakhouse and two main dining rooms all got my stamp of approval. Though I’ll miss Poesia this year in South Florida, her younger sister MSC Divina arrives in November and is staying here year-round. Check it out for yourself with our

broadcast from MSC Poesia on CruiseRadio.net under Broadcasts.
