premier manufacturers of wooden coasters worldwide and we’ve admired their previous coasters in the Cedar Fair family. They have been an incredible partner and were a key player in getting us to the point we are at now. They delivered on every aspect and provided Great America with a beautiful landmark.

Our first wooden coaster, The Grizzly, appeared in 1986. While Gold Striker is also a wooden coaster, they are completely different experiences. Gold Striker delivers a modern feel with 85 degree turns and constant speed. The Grizzly is more of a traditional up and down, out and back wooden coaster that fits well in our family of coasters.

Rider reaction to Gold Striker has been fantastic. The ride is two minutes and 30 seconds long, and the words we hear regularly are “amazing,” “incredible” and “awesome.” Gold Striker has truly resonated with our guests and has quickly become our signature ride. I was fortunate to be among the first riders and have ridden it more than a dozen times since. If I had to describe Gold Striker in a word, it would be “relentless.”

The tunnels add a unique element that is certainly consistent with the theming of the ride and provides guests with a true “mine shaft” feeling. The 174ft (53m) descent tunnel is the longest initial descent tunnel on any wooden coaster, making Gold Striker

the standard bearer in that category. What surprises everyone is how incredibly smooth and fast the ride runs, considering the dynamic turns and banking. To other park owners who are considering adding a major wooden coaster, I would just say you can’t go wrong with a ride like Gold Striker. In the end, what matters is what your guests think and they have universally endorsed Gold Striker in every possible way. It truly is an exceptional ride and one that has exceeded everyone’s expectations.
