P&P Projects 25 years of themes and dreams
As it approaches its 25th anniversary, the Dutch attraction designer P&P Projects boats an ever wider range of work under its belt
T
he company’s theming and design work can be found in amusement parks, waterparks, museums, zoos and visitor centres worldwide. And thanks to the fact that its design department and production facilities are housed under the same roof, P&P can offer a full turnkey service to clients from across the leisure and attractions industry. This season it has completed work on dark rides for Tusenfryd in Oslo and the new Vialand theme park in Istanbul and now some exciting projects are lined up for 2014 including Europa-Park, Walibi and several other leading European parks.
Nominated for a European Star Award, the winners of which were due to be announced this month at Euro Attractions Show (EAS) in Paris, Thor’s Hammer at Tusenfryd in Oslo is a major 3D dark ride combining themed sets, multimedia content and new multi-motion ride vehicles. P&P realised the ride from scratch, handling concept design, storyboard, technical designs, physical theming, special effects, sound, music and 3D films.
Constructed at the Norwegian park inside a cave, the attraction features 11 six-seater vehicles that travel through eight scenes and past 10 screens featuring CGI projection. The thrilling ride, inspired by Norse mythology, lasts around four minutes, and was brought to life by P&P In just eight months from dream to completion. A variety of alternative themes are now available to theme parks considering adding a similar attraction.
P&P also collaborated on Safari Tüneli, an interactive dark ride at
“Turkey’s first theme park” – Vialand in Istanbul The attraction features a trackless ride system and four interactive 3D screens supplied, together with game/shooting technology. P&P created the concept, designs, theming and 10 animatronic figures for the ride, which focuses on the theme of conservation as passengers compete to “poach the poachers.” In readiness for 2014, P&P is working on the art direction and a large part of the theming for the eagerly-awaited new dark ride at Europa- Park, Germany. Housed inside a custom-built building, Arthur – In the Minimoys Kingdom will consist of a rollercoaster (by Mack) with numerous high-tech special effects, plus several smaller attractions. More details about the IP-based attraction were due to be revealed at EAS, where P&P will be showing some of the first theming elements.
