CHAPTER CORNER

Canada’s Innovative Meetings Conference

When a large meetings industry conference comes to Canada, attendance increases by roughly 1,000 people, according to Chuck Shouwerwou, CMP, CMM, director of education and events for PCMA’s Canada East Chapter. Shouwerwou said that the increase can be attributed to “Canadian [attendees], whose employers won’t pay for them to go to the U.S. for education.” Which is why on Nov. 10–12, 2013, Canada East will host its first Regional Innovation Conference at the Niagara Falls Scotiabank Convention Centre and the Marriott Gateway hotel in Niagara Falls, Ontario.

“We believe it’s time to have a premier education conference in Canada for our industry,” Shouw- erwou said. Education sessions will cover topics including innovation in event design and tech- nology, personal growth and development, and issues in ethics, etiquette, image, and food-and- beverage.
