ften a very nice model can be im- proved. A case in point is the Bethlehem 52′-6″ gondola

cently released by Tangent Models. Of- fered initially as ready-to-run for the Baltimore & Ohio, Lehigh Valley, and Western Maryland, as well as undeco- rated, it is a beautifully rendered model possessing very crisp exterior and in- side detailing. It was first announced and made available in October, 2011, at the Chicago (Naperville) Railroad Pro- totype Modelers (RPM) meet. Other road names, era-specific paint schemes, and kits are forthcoming if not already available. Concurrent at the same ven- ue was the release of the 23rd edition of

drawings of the B&O’s 1937 1,200 O-59 class cars are featured in the Railway Prototype Cyclopedia and are helpful for the improvements made to both deco- rated and undecorated ready-to-run or kit models. While not compellingly obvious, the Duryea Cushioned Underframe (a longtime favorite of the B&O) is not complete on the model. This is evident inboard of the trucks where the ends of long 2¹₂″×2¹₂″ angle bars, suspended below each side of the center sill, are

not to be found. Also, the rods that con- nect the brake levers on each truck to the central system can be improved. The three underside basic brake sys- tem components are also mounted too high under the floor and would not be evident when the car is viewed from low levels such as that offered when on high ground or crossing a bridge. Fi- nally, thanks to new decals offered by Jerry Glow, seven cars that migrated from the O-59 group to the Wellsville Addison & Galeton R.R., a north-cen- tral Pennsylvania

shortline in the

Salzberg family, can be modeled. There was also an eighth car (actually the first to arrive in the late 1950’s rather
