good starting point. With my model, both hoods and the cab were cast sepa- rately from the walkway, so it was easy to disassemble. I did have to cut the battery boxes off the walkway (which would not be necessary using the Proto 2000 shell), but once that was done, I was ready to go to work.
RAILROAD MODEL CRAFTSMAN
I started with the long hood, since it required the most extensive modifica- tions. First, I popped out the dynamic brake insert and replaced it with a plain section built from sheet styrene. Then, I increased the height of the hood by gluing strips of .030″×.080″ styrene along the bottom edge.
I
glued, filed and sanded styrene blocks to build up and attach the “saddlebag” air filter housings. Not having accu- rate measurements of these, I sized them by eye following my photo- graphs. After finishing the model, I now think they look somewhat under- size, so on future projects like this I
