Products Test & Measurement Improved aircraft maintenance
Ground points are required to create a safe electrical network inside an aircraft - when it flies through dry air it gets statical- ly charged, so when it lands this needs to be safely discharged through the ground. Features of the DO4000 include forward
Cropico has introduced the new DO4000 range of digital milliohmme- ters to offer improved testing of earth bonding connections between fuel tanks and airframe sections. The instrument includes several features to check the integrity of earth connections within an aircraft’s body as an integral part of an advanced quality control programme. The DO4000 can also be a key feature of maintenance programmes designed to identify and reduce the potential for air- frame corrosion on front line fighter aircraft. Technicians can utilise the instrument to measure the ground points on a range of civilian and military aircraft and helicopters. These ground points are located at var- ious key points around the airframe and the DO4000 enables technicians to quickly and easily check that the resis- tance levels between each one are lower than <2.5milliohm.
and reverse current measurement with auto-averaging, true current zero, long scale length and a selectable measurement range from 40mW to 4kW with respective resolutions between 10mW and 1W. Within the range, model 4001 also includes temperature compensation, with preset coefficients for copper and alumini- um, plus user settable coefficients for other materials. Temperature measurement over the range -50°C to 800°C is also available. Protection up to 415V rms is provided at the measurement terminals and direct reading measured values are displayed on a four digit LCD display.
Over range and low battery indication is
also provided and warning LEDs illuminate when an open circuit lead condition is detected. The 4000 series can be supplied with a rechargeable battery option featuring a battery pack, docking station and charger. Cropico

Business in a box
To help PAT testers that are new to the electrical industry to find business, Megger has introduced its ‘Business in a Box’.
This new product contains everything you need to start your own business as a PAT tester. It is avail-
Fixed appliance testing
As recommended by the 4th edition of the IET Code of Practice, Seaward’s latest multi- purpose portable appliance tester is specially equipped to carry out the ‘point to point’ testing of fixed appliances. Specially designed for risk- based portable appliance testing, the new Apollo 600 is also
equipped to carry out the earth continuity and insulation tests required on fixed appliances.
The new code recognises that the inspection and testing of appli- ances such as hot air hand dryers and water boilers can be more complex than portable and non-fixed equipment, but this does not mean that only visual inspections are required.
A full combined inspection and test is required at relevant inter- vals, performed by a person competent to carry out this more com- plex arrangement of work, also involving safe isolation procedures. The ability of the Apollo 600 to undertake these dedicated tests means that the inspection and test results can be stored and used for complete traceability and assessment of risk to determine re-test periods. As well as fixed appliances, the Apollo 600 incorporates a suite of electrical safety tests to enable all workplace appliances to be tested, including 3-phase equipment and RCDs.

able in two versions (the PAT320 is the manual ver- sion and the PAT420 is the computerised version). The business in a box includes a tough PAT tester, and all the leads and adaptors needed to carry out PAT testing successfully.
If you are buying the manual version, you will receive a duplicate test report book to enable results to be certified and a copy can then be issued to your customer. The computerised PAT business in a box comes with the Megger Power suite Contractor PAT certification software which manages both your customers and assets includ- ing arranging appointments, diary management and billing, automatic testing, printing certificates and repairs estimates. Portable instrument for IEC 60076-18 transformer testing The new SFRA45 is a handheld
instrument from Newtons4th (N4L), designed especially for field testing the frequency response of step down transform- ers against the standards laid down in IEC60076-18.
All transformers have a ‘finger- print’ that describes their fre- quency response and is measured and recorded by the manufacturer using sweep frequency response analysis prior to the device leaving the factory. Using an SFRA45 to test the frequency response of large transformers in the field,

engineers can compare their results to the manufacturer’s fin- gerprint. Deviations can indicate a fault with the transformer, such as problems with the insulation or coolant. The SFRA45 thus allows the user to confirm proper func- tioning or to diagnose the presence of problems that may require fur- ther investigation and servicing. The SFRA45 features a rugged metal casing, a large colour screen and a simple interface that allows the user to perform com- plete sweeps, then view or store the results without the need for a

PC or laptop. The SFRA45 offers basic wideband accuracy to 0.02db and phase accuracy to 0.05°. It also features a built-in LCR meter. Newtons4th

Martindale Electric has introduced its new DC50 Boroscope, designed to opti- cally inspect and troubleshoot difficult to get to and awkward spaces in facilities and manufacturing environments. Featuring a waterproof illuminated camera head, which is attached to a flex- ible goose necked style lead, the DC50 offers users a very clear light visual of the object under inspection. Easily adjusted to access images from a range of hard to reach locations, pictures are displayed on to the integrated 320 x 230 TFT monitor. Rated to IP67, which offers protec- tion against ingressive foreign liquids and solids, the DC50 can be used by electricians, plumbers, HVAC profes- sionals, mechanics and aircraft.
