Pittsburg State University Jump Starts Center of Excellence Pittsburg State University (PSU),
Pittsburg State University is a
Pittsburg, Kan., kicked off its Center of Excellence in Metal Casting (CEMC) with a 25-ton wax injec- tor. MPI Inc., Poughkeepsie, N.Y., donated the machine, installed in the metalcasting lab at the Kansas Technology Center. The goal of the CEMC is to
develop a state-of-the-art labora- tory that will produce top graduates in the metalcasting industry. It also will become a permanent education and training resource for industry professionals to learn best practices, share knowledge and disseminate leading-edge solutions in the met- alcasting process. T is new equipment brings real-
world application to the classroom from tooling design and wax injection to fi nal wax assembly.

Calco Enters Ag Market As part of a new product develop-
ment process that began in 2011, T e C.A. Lawton Co. (Calco), De Pere, Wis., has completed qualifi cation and is now in full production for its fi rst major agricultural equipment manufacturing customer. Calco delivers the component machined complete, providing a single source for OEMs. Calco will machine the castings onsite or in its Centerline plant in Hobart, Wis. “It involved substantial collabora-
tion around new product development, and it’s an integrated off ering in that we provide castings, paint and machin- ing,” said Alex Lawton, CEO, Calco. “T is is a signifi cant piece of business for us because it so thoroughly utilizes our capabilities and touches on so many of our strategic priorities. [It] requires a higher level of communica- tion and fl exibility.” Calco produces large gray and duc-
tile iron castings as well as machined components for domestic manufactur- ers in the HVAC, municipal pump and valve, oil and gas, mining, and power generation industries. Its customers include General Electric, IR/Trane, Metso, and Siemens.
