One such sailor is 22-year-old David Gilmour, son of the aforementioned Peter. It wasn’t nepotism that qualified the younger Gilmour for his entry into the recent Korea Match Cup, but through a regional qualifier. Having done so, the

young Australian sailed higher up the rankings than some of the established pros including last year’s Korea champion, Sweden’s Bjorn Hansen. Gilmour finished 7th out of the 12 teams. “It’s hard to put into words how much we've learned. It’s lot easier to learn from these guys rather than make it up ourselves. Seeing the professionalism of these teams and how they go about their routines and their approach to the sailing, it really helps us learn what we need to be changing and doing differently. I’m doing a 49er campaign too, but long term it would be great to make a career in match racing, in the Tour and the America’s Cup.”
