ABOVE: Reminiscent of scenes played out across upstate New York in the 1930s, car 168 approaches the trolley stop just outside the main entrance to the New York Museum of Transportation in Rochester. The wooden shel- ter once served passengers on the Rochester & Eastern interurban line near Canandaigua until 1930 before it was saved and brought to the museum in 1976. STEVE BARRY PHOTO OPPOSITE: Car 161 is outbound at the car- barn lead, preparing to descend the grade down towards Midway on a sunny summer evening at NYMT. OTTO VONDRAK PHOTO LEFT: Used as the primary car for regular mu- seum operations, Car 161 rolls through Giles Crossing on its way towards Midway. The en- tire museum railroad was built by volunteers using salvaged materials from the abandoned Rochester Subway. Both 161 and 168 served in Philadelphia and briefly in Iowa before com- ing to Rochester in 1996. STEVE BARRY PHOTO
